Are these pretty solid machines, and how do they compare to newer MIG machines of similar amperage? Any reason to stay abroad from one?

I had an SP-200. I remember a lot of wire feed problem.

Adjacent thing is the SP-200's feeder is integral with the cabinet'south side, making the cabinet wide, so the machine's larger size is tougher to move around a crowded shop, than say the more than narrow Millers of the same era.

And since the SP-200 feeder is not a separate unit, there is no way to extend the feeder away from the power source, or to even aim the feeder in the general direction of the work, as is oftentimes required on larger "floor piece of work" jobs. Also the gun's cablehose exits the ability source at floor level. So the machine's limited achieve often requires installing a longer attain cablehose, which compounds feeding problems.

Functionally I think the SP-200 is a fine low-cal duty motorcar, only probably better suited for stationary or demote piece of work, rather than jobs that require lots of moving around.

Any of Lincoln'south older big industrial machines, with a split feeder such as an LN-7 or LN-9, are very tough, reliable, and serviceable machines. Of course input ability will probably have to be 3 phase.

Good Luck
